IDOLATRY

IDOLATRY

Last Friday, Wester Gallery hosted the highly anticipated opening night reception of Chris de la Motte's solo exhibition, 'Idolatry.' The event drew a diverse crowd of art enthusiasts, collectors, and friends and family, making it a night to remember.

Chris de la Motte's 'Idolatry' is a continuation of his exploration into the realms of identity and idolatry. The series employs baroque painting techniques, integrating classical compositions with modern synthetic materials and graphic applications. Rather than merely updating historical idols for the contemporary landscape, de la Motte flips the script, using neo-classical painting to frame contemporary subjects. This innovative approach highlights the idolatry of identity in today's world, questioning what defines us and how we perceive ourselves.

The opening night was a vibrant gathering of art lovers, including local artists, gallery patrons, and new visitors. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as attendees explored de la Motte's striking works, sparking meaningful conversations and connections. The gallery's inviting ambiance, coupled with the powerful display of de la Motte's pieces, created a perfect setting for cultural enrichment and community engagement.

Chris de la Motte was on hand to engage with guests, providing deeper insights into his creative process and the conceptual underpinnings of 'Idolatry.' He discussed how his work reflects the vibrant excess and reductive flatness of contemporary identity, using fluorescent motifs to symbolize the rupture between classical painting and modern aesthetics. This personal interaction added a rich layer of understanding for those in attendance.

The opening night was just the beginning. 'Idolatry' runs until 25 May, offering ample time to experience Chris de la Motte's compelling work. We invite everyone to visit Wester Gallery and immerse themselves in the thought-provoking world of 'Idolatry.'

Thank you to everyone who attended the opening night of 'Idolatry' and made it an unforgettable event. We look forward to welcoming you back to Wester Gallery soon.
